Refund policy
Effective date: October 3, 2026
This policy has two parts. The first applies to consumers who purchase on melmel.com. The second applies to wholesale, distribution, foodservice and private label accounts. Orders placed through Amazon or Walmart are governed by that marketplace's own return policy.
PART ONE - Consumers purchasing on melmel.com
1. 30-day satisfaction guarantee
If you are not satisfied with your purchase, contact us within 30 days of delivery and we will refund the price of the product. Because our products are perishable food items that cannot be restocked or resold, we do not ask you to ship the product back.
2. How to request a refund
Email orders@melmel.com with your order number and a brief description of the problem. Photographs are helpful but not required. Refunds are processed to the original payment method within ten business days of approval.
3. What is refunded
The price of the product. Original shipping charges are not refunded unless the shipment was our error - wrong product, wrong quantity, damage in transit, or a quality defect - in which case we refund shipping as well.
4. Limits
This guarantee is limited to three refunds per customer per twelve-month period, and does not apply to the 12 lb, 22 lb and 55 lb bucket formats, which are professional-volume purchases and are governed by Part Two.
5. Damage, shortage or quality defect
If your shipment arrives damaged, incomplete or defective, contact us as soon as you notice and we will replace it or refund it, at your choice. Please keep the product and its packaging until the matter is resolved.
PART TWO - Wholesale, distribution, foodservice and private label accounts
6. All sales are final
Because our products are perishable food items that cannot be restocked or resold once they leave our control, all sales to trade accounts are final. We accept claims only in the circumstances described below.
7. When we accept a claim
We will accept a claim if, upon delivery, the product is:
- Damaged in transit, including crushed, punctured or leaking containers.
- Short-shipped, meaning the quantity delivered does not match the quantity invoiced.
- Defective in quality, including off-flavor, off-texture, seal failure or evidence of spoilage.
- Incorrect, meaning we shipped a product or format different from the one ordered.
8. Claim deadline
Claims must be reported within 48 hours of delivery. Please inspect your shipment on arrival. Claims submitted after 48 hours cannot be verified against carrier records and will not be accepted.
9. How to submit a claim
Email orders@melmel.com within 48 hours of delivery with the following:
- Your order or invoice number.
- A description of the problem.
- Clear photographs of the affected product, the outer packaging, and the shipping label.
- The lot number and best-by date printed on the affected units.
Do not discard the affected product until the claim has been resolved. We may ask that it be held for inspection or returned.
10. Remedy
For approved claims we will, at our option, ship replacement product at no charge or issue a credit to your account for the value of the affected units. Cash refunds are issued only where a replacement is not possible and the customer has no open account, and are processed to the original payment method within ten business days of approval.
11. What we do not accept
- Change of mind, over-ordering, or discontinuation of a menu item or product line.
- Product that deteriorated because it was stored, handled or transported improperly after delivery.
- Product that has passed its best-by date while in the customer's possession.
- Product that has been opened, repackaged, relabeled or altered in any way, except where necessary to document a quality defect.
- Claims reported more than 48 hours after delivery.
- Custom, private-label or made-to-order production runs, which are non-cancellable and non-returnable once production has started.
BOTH PARTS
12. Order cancellations
Standard orders may be cancelled without charge until they are picked, packed or handed to the carrier. Once an order has shipped it cannot be cancelled and is subject to this policy. Custom and private-label orders cannot be cancelled once production has begun.
13. Refused shipments
If a trade shipment is refused at delivery without an approved claim, or is returned to us because the delivery address provided was incorrect or incomplete, the customer is responsible for the outbound and return freight charges and the product cannot be credited. For consumer orders, where the error was ours, we absorb it.
14. Marketplace orders
Orders placed on Amazon or Walmart are governed by that marketplace's return policy, which may be more generous than this one.
